A lakeside hotel wedding in Cavan
Some hotels feel like a private country house, and Crover House is one of them. Emma and Damien spent their whole day there: getting ready upstairs, saying their vows on the lawn and celebrating late into the night, with Lough Sheelin just a short walk away. We were with them from the first glass of prosecco to the last song.
Crover House Hotel, Mountnugent, Co. Cavan
Crover House is a four-star country house hotel and golf club on the shores of Lough Sheelin, near Mountnugent on the Cavan and Meath border. The white, ivy-covered house sits in manicured lawns and colourful gardens, and the lake is right on the doorstep, which makes it easy to fit a ceremony, portraits and a party into one beautiful place.
Prosecco and blush pyjamas
The morning started at the hotel with Emma and her girls in matching blush satin pyjamas, a bottle of prosecco and plenty of laughter. Amy styled Emma's soft vintage waves while Emma did her own make-up, and a pair of heart-shaped 'Bride to be' sunglasses made a well-timed appearance between toasts.
Vows on the lawn
Emma and Damien married outdoors on the lawns of Crover House, with family and friends seated on the grass and the white, ivy-covered hotel behind them. The first kiss, with Emma's hands on Damien's face and everyone clapping, is one of our favourite moments of the whole day.
Portraits on the shore of Lough Sheelin
After the ceremony we slipped away to the lake. Under a soft Cavan sky, with Emma's long pearl-studded veil and Damien in a black velvet tuxedo jacket, Lough Sheelin gave us a calm, open backdrop. A few quiet frames among the trees, with sunlight falling through the veil, finished the portraits.
Confetti and Catch 22
Back at the hotel, family and friends lined up outside the ivy-framed doors for a confetti exit, with the little page boy and flower girl walking right beside the newlyweds. After photos on the lawn with the bridesmaids in blush pink, Catch 22 got the evening started. Our tips for Crover House: leave 20 to 30 minutes for portraits by the lake, consider an outdoor ceremony on the lawns with an indoor plan ready, and choose a getting-ready room with good window light.
