A summer castle wedding on the edge of Dublin
It is hard to believe that Luttrellstown Castle sits only twenty minutes from Dublin city centre. Drive through the gates and the city disappears: long lawns, ancient trees and a castle that has been welcoming guests for centuries. Marisa and Paul chose it for a summer wedding full of colour, family and music, and we were there with our cameras from the first make-up brush to the last song.
Luttrellstown Castle, Clonsilla, Co. Dublin
Luttrellstown is a fifteenth-century castle set in a private estate in west Dublin. Couples can marry outdoors on the lawns or inside the castle, the wedding party stays in the castle's own bedrooms, and dinner is served in grand rooms under chandeliers. It is one of the most complete castle venues in Ireland, and an easy trip for guests flying into Dublin.
Morning in the castle bedrooms
Marisa got ready in one of the castle suites, with tall windows pouring soft light over the make-up chair. Her bridesmaids in deep emerald green kept the room laughing, and when her dad saw her for the first time he gently kissed her hand, a small moment that ended up being one of our favourite frames of the day.
An outdoor ceremony with a handfasting
The ceremony took place outside, with the castle behind the couple and flowers by French Touch framing the aisle. Marisa's dad walked her to Paul, they read their own vows, and then their hands were tied together in a traditional Celtic handfasting before they signed the register at a little table on the lawn.
Vintage cars and portraits on the estate
Classic cars were waiting on the gravel in front of the castle, and we used them, the grand staircase inside and the long lawns outside for portraits, and gathered the whole bridal party in front of the ivy-covered walls. Luttrellstown gives you a different backdrop every few steps, so we never needed to go far.
Dinner, desserts and the Beatty Brothers
Drinks were served outdoors in the sunshine before guests moved into the dining room, where the tables sat under sparkling chandeliers. Instead of a wedding cake there was a dessert table by Dave Fountain, the speeches had everyone in tears, and the Beatty Brothers kept the dance floor full until the end of the night.
