A sunny country house wedding in Wicklow
Some venues feel like a private home from the moment you arrive. Michelle and Craig had Clonwilliam House all to themselves for their wedding day, and with blue skies over the Wicklow hills, a ceremony in the gardens and a bridal party who laughed from morning to midnight, it was one of the brightest days of our season.
Clonwilliam House, Woodenbridge, Co. Wicklow
Tucked into the valleys near Woodenbridge, Clonwilliam House is an exclusive-use country house with a Georgian feel. Inside you find reception rooms painted in duck-egg blue and soft green, ornate plasterwork, family antiques and open fires. Guests sip drinks on the terraces, dinner and dancing move to the restored barn and stables, and the couple and their closest family can stay in the house overnight.
Getting ready in the drawing room
Michelle's satin gown hung from the chandelier in the drawing room, surrounded by gilded mirrors and deep sofas. Her rings sat in a little cloud of gypsophila, her mesh heels beside a single white rose. Aisling Hamill created her long, glossy waves and Adrianna took care of her make-up, while out in the hall a garland of white roses, hydrangeas and greenery wound its way down the grand staircase.
A garden ceremony in the sunshine
Guests gathered on both sides of the aisle in the gardens under a cloudless sky. Craig waited in a classic black tuxedo with a white rose and gypsophila buttonhole, and Michelle came down the aisle in a strapless satin gown, laughing beneath her veil with a bouquet of white roses in her hands. Half the guests had their phones up, and everyone was smiling.
Bridesmaids, the grand hall and portraits indoors
On the front steps, under an arch of white flowers, the bridesmaids in black velvet surrounded Michelle and could not stop laughing. We then brought the newlyweds inside for quiet portraits in the drawing room and the hall, with Craig leaning over the flower-dressed staircase while Michelle sat on the steps below. Inside or out, Clonwilliam gives you a timeless backdrop in every direction.
Dinner and dancing in the barn
The evening moved to the barn, where the cake was cut after dinner and The Events Company band kept the dance floor busy until late. Our tips for a Clonwilliam House wedding: dress the staircase with flowers, take the ceremony outside if the weather allows (with an indoor plan ready), and enjoy having the whole house to yourselves.
