A country house wedding in West Wicklow

Some couples want a day that feels like a big family party in a beautiful house, and that is exactly what Olivia and Hugo had. A village church ceremony, an old country house covered in ivy and a bridal party that never stopped laughing. It was a joy to film from start to finish.

Rathsallagh House, Dunlavin, Co. Wicklow

Rathsallagh House sits on a large estate near Dunlavin, where the Wicklow hills meet the Kildare plains. The house was converted from Queen Anne stables, and it keeps a warm, lived-in feel: white walls wrapped in ivy, wood-panelled rooms, open fires and long lawns running out to the countryside. It is less than an hour from Dublin, which makes it an easy choice for guests.

Bubbles, laughter and the little details

The morning was pure fun. Olivia poured bubbles for her bridesmaids, laughed her way through make-up and posed with a 'The Bride' fan more than once. We also took time for the details: an invitation suite with a wax seal and the couple's monogram, pearl-trimmed shoes and a pear-shaped engagement ring catching the light.

The ceremony at St Finian's Church, Kilquiggan

Olivia and Hugo were married at St Finian's Church in Kilquiggan, a short drive from Rathsallagh. The pews were dressed with soft pink and white flowers, the bridesmaids in champagne satin watched from the front row, and the walk back down the aisle to a church full of applause was one of the happiest moments of the day.

Portraits under the ivy

Back at the house we found quiet corners for portraits: beneath the ivy-covered pergola, against the white walls of the old stables and in the panelled rooms, where window light gives everything a timeless, slightly moody look. Rathsallagh is the kind of venue where you never need to walk far for a beautiful frame.

Bouquets in the air and a champagne tower

On the lawn the bridal party threw their bouquets in the air and cheered the newlyweds, and later Olivia and Hugo filled a champagne tower together. Our tips for a Rathsallagh House wedding: use the ivy and white walls for portraits, look for window light inside when the weather turns, and leave time on the lawns for relaxed group photos.
